Micro weddings and small wedding venues in Houston

Most Houston wedding venues are built for 200 and priced for 200. If you are planning for 40, or 60, or 80, the problem is not finding a room. It is finding one that does not make forty people feel like a rehearsal in an empty hall.

A small wedding is not a scaled-down big one. It is a different evening, and it wants a different room.

The empty-room problem

Book 50 guests into a 300-seat ballroom and the photographs will show it. Empty round tables at the edges, a dance floor with too much space around it, and a room that reads as under-attended no matter how happy everyone is.

The fix is not decoration. It is square footage. A room that fits your guest list closely feels full, sounds better, and photographs as though the day was always meant to be exactly this size.

The Dome at The Hendrix is 2,000 sq ft and we market it at 80 guests or fewer — deliberately, because that is the number at which it feels right rather than the number we could physically fit. It is upstairs, it has its own large marble bar, and it is priced the same on any day of the week.

What “micro wedding” actually means

The term gets used for three different things, and they need different rooms.

Elopement — 2 to 12

The couple, witnesses, perhaps parents. Often a ceremony and a long dinner rather than a reception. A small private room and a good table.

Micro wedding — 20 to 50

Immediate family and closest friends. Usually one space for everything — ceremony, dinner, dancing — with a reset in between. The Dome does this in a single booking.

Small wedding — 50 to 100

Everyone you would actually miss. At the top of this band the Dome is tight and the Mansion is the better room, dressed to feel intimate rather than filled to its capacity.

What a smaller wedding buys you

The honest case for going small is not that it is cheap. It is that the same budget buys a noticeably better evening.

Food people talk about

A $6,000 catering budget is $30 a head at 200 and $120 a head at 50. That is the difference between a buffet and a menu.

Time with your guests

At 200 you get roughly 90 seconds per guest across the whole evening. At 50 you actually have a conversation with everyone who came.

A weekday that works

Small guest lists travel better midweek. A Friday or a Thursday is easier to fill with 50 people than with 200, and it costs less.

The Dome, dressed for a reception of eighty. Its own bar, its own floor, and nobody else in the building.

What it costs

The Dome is $1,200 daytime, $1,500 evening and $2,000 for a full day, the same on any day of the week. Add a $200 cleaning fee, a refundable $350 deposit, and a $300 security fee where alcohol is served or the event runs into the evening. Additional hours are $200.

Included: tables, Chiavari chairs, linens, the marble bar, an on-site concierge, free parking and the 1,000 sq ft prep kitchen for whichever caterer you choose. There is no approved supplier list and no markup on your food bill.

If your list grows past eighty, the Mansion seats 300 from $2,500 — and both getting-ready suites come with it either way.

One wedding a day

Whichever room you take, only one event runs here at a time. There is no second wedding upstairs, no shared parking and no hard stop because the room has to be turned for someone else. For a day built around forty people who matter, that turns out to be the part couples mention afterwards.

Small wedding questions

What is a micro wedding?

Usually 20 to 50 guests: immediate family and closest friends, with the ceremony, dinner and dancing often in one space. Below that, 2 to 12 guests is generally an elopement, and 50 to 100 is a small wedding.

Where can you have a small wedding near Houston?

The Dome at The Hendrix in Stafford is about 2,000 sq ft and marketed at 80 guests or fewer, with its own large marble bar. It is priced the same on any day of the week, from $1,200.

How much does a small wedding venue cost in Houston?

The Dome is $1,200 daytime, $1,500 evening and $2,000 for a full day, on any day of the week. Add a $200 cleaning fee, a refundable $350 deposit, and a $300 security fee where alcohol is served or the event runs into the evening. Additional hours are $200.

Why does a small wedding look better in a small room?

A guest list of fifty in a 300-seat ballroom photographs as under-attended, with empty tables at the edges. A room sized close to your guest count feels full, sounds better and photographs as though the day was always meant to be that size.

Do we still get the getting-ready suites for a small wedding?

Yes. Both the bride's and groom's suites are included, and only one wedding runs at The Hendrix per day, so there is no second party in the building and no hard stop.
